What will be studied

Unit 1: Fitness for Sport and Exercise – Exam

Unit 2: Practical Performance in Sport – Coursework

Unit 3: Applying the Principles of Personal Training – Coursework

Learning Methods

Students will learn about the components of fitness which will relate to the methods of fitness and training. There will be the opportunity to carry out fitness tests and analysis of the results.

Part of the learning will be through practical sessions where students will focus on the technical and tactical aspects of sport. They will carry out peer and self assessment to delve deeper into practical sport performance.

Students will use their knowledge from Unit 1 to design a personalised training programme that they will follow and evaluate over a 6 week period.

Students will use their knowledge of Biology and how the body works to present the benefits of exercise on the body. They will learn and observe how different energy systems work and which athletes are most likely to use each system.

Expectations of Students

Unit 1 – To complete an online exam on Fitness and Sport exercise.

Unit 2 – Practical performance in two selected sports, video evidence and coursework.

Unit 3 – Design, application and analysis of a 6 week training programme. 

Unit 5 – Presentation of the short and long term effects of exercise on the body.
